Celebrate San Angelo’s hometown Hollywood star, Fess Parker, on Saturday, August 16, with programs in the morning, 9-12 Noon, and in the evening, 7:00 pm -9:00 pm, at the fort’s Quartermaster Building, Burgess Street at East Avenue C. It’s the Second Annual Fess-tival to honor a famous San Angeloan. While born in Fort Worth on August 16, 1924, Fess Parker and his family came to San Angelo six months later. He attended local schools, played high school football, and delivered the Standard-Times, but never forgot his roots. After his service in World War II and college, he sought a career in acting and was “discovered,” eventually appearing as Davy Crockett in several movies and later on tv portraying Daniel Boone. From the 1960s to the 1980s, he regularly visited his hometown. The morning segment of the “Fess-tival” will feature a continental breakfast, period games and programs, displays, weapons firing demonstrations, and a Davy Crockett-Daniel Boone Look-A-Like contest with several cash prizes and a gift basket for the adult (over 18) and youth (17 and under) divisions. Guidelines are attached. The evening program will have a movie starting Fess, “The Great Locomotive Chase,” a trivia quiz, and a group singing of the famous Ballad of Davy Crockett.
